Online applications are available from OWU, Next Stop College (the College Board), and the Common Application. Downloadable PDF applications are also available on this site. To access these, go to Online Applications. You can also request a paper application.

Is there an application fee?

Yes, the fee is $35. However, the application fee is waived for those students who submit their application online.

What are your entrance requirements?

A college-preparatory background is essential to enter OWU. Minimum requirements include 4 years of English, 3 years of social science, 3 years of math and science, and 2 years of foreign language study (3 years recommended).

Do you require the SAT or ACT?

We accept scores for both tests, although we only require one set of scores. Be sure to request that your scores be sent directly to OWU by indicating our institutional code on the score report request form. OWU’s SAT code is 1594, and its ACT code is 3316. We do not require the ACT writing test.

Do you give credit for Advanced Placement (AP) courses?

OWU awards academic credit for some of the Advanced Placement (AP) courses available through the College Entrance Examination Board. A score of four or better is usually required in order to receive credit for the course. Specific requirements are detailed in the Online Catalog.

Do you offer Concurrent Enrollment for high school students?

Ohio Wesleyan University is pleased to continue to offer an educational enrichment option to qualified high school juniors and seniors who live in the central Ohio area. Concurrent Enrollment provides the opportunity for such students to enroll in a regular college course on our campus and use such coursework for college credit. What is included in the application?

In addition to basic information about you, your academic interests, and your extracurricular involvement, we also require an essay, a guidance counselor recommendation, an official high school transcript, and your SAT or ACT scores. A teacher recommendation is suggested but not required.

When should I complete my application?

Late fall and early winter of your senior year are the best times. For more information, go to Important Dates and Deadlines. Application review begins Nov. 1, and qualified applicants are admitted on an ongoing basis until the class is complete.

Do I need to fill out additional applications for scholarships?

You will automatically be considered for all of our merit-based awards when you apply for admission. To ensure you are considered for all possible scholarships, you should apply by Feb. 1. For more information, go to Financial Aid.

What does “Early Decision” mean?

If you are certain that you will attend OWU if admitted, you can file as an Early Decision candidate for admission. The deadline for the submission of your application is Dec. 1, and the notification of admission decisions will be made by Dec. 15. Candidates who apply Early Decision agree that they will attend OWU if admitted and will submit their enrollment deposit within 2 weeks of notification of admission. Candidates for Early Decision who are not offered admission immediately may be re-evaluated during the regular admission cycle and will be notified of a decision by April 15.

What does “Early Action” mean?

If OWU is one of your top choices, but you are not certain that you will attend if admitted, you should consider the Early Action Admission option. Early Action applications must be received by Dec. 15. Notification of admission decisions will be sent by January 15. Your enrollment deposit can be paid at any time by May 1. Candidates for Early Action who are not offered admission immediately may be re-evaluated during the regular admission cycle and will be notified of a decision by April 15.

When will I learn of my admission decision if I apply Regular Admission?

The review of Regular Admission candidates begins in January. Depending on when your application becomes complete, it will take up to 3 weeks for you to hear from us, but you will know by April 15 if you meet our March 1 deadline.

Can I transfer to Ohio Wesleyan from another college?

Each year, students from community, private, and public colleges and universities transfer to OWU. Students who transfer to OWU have strong academic records and are in good standing at the college they are leaving. Transfer students are welcome to begin in either the fall or spring semester. Is it possible to defer my admission to Ohio Wesleyan?

For some students, college is a more meaningful experience if they spend a year between high school and college pursuing non-academic interests. If you are interested in the deferred admission option, please indicate this on your application. Also, most of our bachelor degree programs can be entered in midyear, following the same sequence as that for students who enter in August. Applications for spring admission are due Dec. 1.
