Annual Expenses

The basic fees at Ohio Wesleyan are comparable to those at institutions of similar size and reputation. Our primary concern is to provide a superior teaching and learning environment for all of our students in the most cost-effective manner possible.

Our general fees for 2008-2009 are as follows:

  • Tuition is $33,240
  • Information technology fee is $240
  • Student activity fee is $220
  • Standard room is $4,120
  • Average board is $4,150
  • The latter two costs do not apply to commuting students. The total average base annual cost for residential students is $41,970.*

Under our semester calendar, tuition covers up to 11 academic units per academic year. A typical program is four courses per semester. Also covered is your use of all facilities—library, wellness center, recreation, etc.—and access to college activities.

For more detailed policy information, go to the Online Catalog.

Special fees are charged for chemistry labs ($10 per course), studio art courses ($40 per semester), physical education activity courses ($50 to $200 per course), student teaching ($100), off-campus study ($200), and private music lessons for students not seeking the Bachelor of Music degree ($200). Other special fees may be charged for specific academic or extracurricular activities.

A group health insurance program offered to every student is optional at $325 per year. (Note: Health insurance is required for international students.)

Our standard room fee is based on double occupancy in a residence hall. Single rooms, when available, cost $4,500 per year or $2,250 per semester—versus $4,120 per year or $2,060 per semester for regular rooms. To find out more about housing options, go to Residential Life.

Board involves a flexible program for hearty, average, and light eaters (our A, B, and C dining plans). All students who live in the residence halls and small living units (including Austin Manor) at OWU must participate in the University meal plan. To find out more about meal plan options, go to Dining Services.

* Additional student-controlled expenses are estimated at the following levels when calculating a student's total cost of education: Books and supplies ($2,050 per year) may be charged at the OWU Bookstore to MasterCard, Visa, or American Express. Personal/living expenses vary greatly and depend on the student's frugality or extravagance, but a reasonable average is $1,250 per year. Transportation costs are not included in these figures.
