Filing Deadlines
March 1 is Ohio Wesleyan University's priority deadline for financial aid filing. Please note that if we do not receive a copy of your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1 prior to the academic year for which you hope to receive aid, you may experience a reduction in aid. Your delay in filing the FAFSA may result in a significant reduction in Ohio Wesleyan University grant funding (dependent upon your initial eligibility). The amount of reduction will increase with the passage of time between March 2 and June 1.
The final deadline for you to be considered for Ohio Wesleyan need-based grants and Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (SEOG), assuming funds are still available, is May 1. All FAFSAs received after June 1 prior to the academic year for which you hope to receive aid will not be considered for Ohio Wesleyan need-based grants during the awarding process. You may still apply for loans to cover the balance of the amount you owe if you do not receive the grant aid.
Please note that you do not need to have your federal tax returns complete before filing the FAFSA. You may estimate the values and correct them when your FAFSA has been processed. Please let us know if you need assistance completing the FAFSA.
Special Circumstance Consideration
If you have special circumstances that you would like us consider when we award financial aid, we must receive a written request for consideration of those special circumstances before June 1. Requests for consideration of special circumstances that arrive after June 1 will not impact your fall semester award, but may be considered for spring semester awards if funds are available at that time.
Important Verification Note
If your FAFSA is selected for the federal verification process, you must send us copies of your parent and student federal tax returns, your W-2 forms, and the verification worksheet provided by Ohio Wesleyan University. Verification documents must be received in the financial aid office by June 1; failure to submit these forms for receipt by June 1 will result in no need-based grants for the fall semester. If you are unable to provide tax returns and have a valid extension, please provide us with a copy of your extension request given to the IRS by June 1, and we will then extend the verification deadline. Again, award letters will not be processed for students who have not completed required verification procedures.
