The Social Sciences: Black World Studies


N O MATTER WHAT CAREER you choose, it will be critical for you to understand world cultures. Black World Studies fosters an understanding of the historical and cultural dimensions of contemporary Black world peoples and societies. This multidisciplinary major encompasses political science, literature, sociology, anthropology, history, religion, art, psychology, and economics. Most OWU students combine this major with another major or minor.

Major and Minor: Black World Studies

Beyond-the-classroom opportunities: Independent study, directed reading. Field work. Study abroad in Africa and the Caribbean. Rafiki Wa Afrika (promotes understanding of cultural, social and political issues in Africa and the African American community), SUBA (Student Union on Black Affairs), Black Men of the Future, Sisters United. Internships. Student board.
